Upchurch AGM Friday 17th October

To All Members,

The agenda for the AGM follows below with nominations for Committee and Saturday captains. If you cannot make the AGM on Friday 17th, email votes will be accepted could you please ensure they are with Anna (anna.pattenden@btinternet.com) by Thursday 16th October at 12 noon to give time to collate where necessary please.

Unfortunately, Lee Stepney cannot, presently commit to 2nd XI team captain so has regretfully withdrawn for the time being. There were no other nominations received in the time required so the 2nd XI captaincy will be discussed at the next committee meeting. This will also apply to Sunday captains as there were no nominations at all.

For those members who are not aware, we have two new additions next season – Alan Pattenden and Kevin Masters who will bring a wealth of professional, cricketing experience and expertise. They have both played in the Kent league for many years (including the Premiership) and are qualified coaches. Kevin has also played for Kent, Surrey and Cambridgeshire and they both currently play for Kent Over 50s. They will both actively coach colts and senior players on a weekly basis during the season and at pre-season nets which will undoubtedly strengthen the club generally. I am sure you will make them feel very welcome.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Friday 17th October 20.00.

With kind regards,
David Dorsett

Upchurch Cricket Week in memory of Don Macaulay : July 21st - 25th 2014

Upchurch Cricket Week in memory of Don Macaulay
July 21st - 25th 2014

To all members & associates:

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this letter, we are fast approaching this year’s cricket week and we wanted to let you all know what’s happening this year, why and hopefully you can all support it one way or another.

The cricket week started several years ago in memory of Don Macaulay who was a good friend, cricketer and loyal member to the club, we were all devastated to lose him at such a young age. It was thought the best way to remember him was by staging a cricket week in his honour, I think it’s fair to say that over the years the way the club has grown in size, stature and playing members the week itself has become a bit lost and forgotten about with many members not knowing who Don was, but we think it’s important that as a club we never forget our roots or the people that helped put our club in the position we are today. We feel we are also missing a great opportunity to promote the club, attract different opposition, raise awareness for a great charity and put the club on the map with a week that we can all be proud of.

When we approached Dons parents about staging a cricket week in his honour and raising some money they asked if it could be given to the Macmillan nurses as they were a great help and comfort to the family at the time, as a club I think the most we’ve ever raised is approx. £150 so obviously this year we’d like to smash that figure through the roof and raise as much as possible.

We managed to raise £1000 from local businesses in order to fund the week, so you may see various business advertising throughout the week in return for their support, we have Macmillan on board and the event is registered with them. Fixtures have proved difficult to obtain this year we started a face book and twitter campaign which led to many blind alleys but I think we have made some useful contacts for next year and may well be attracting some touring sides, this year we just missed the boat on that front however the itinerary for the week is as follows:

Monday 21st Upchurch V Chatham Nomads XI 2pm 40 over BBQ/Curry night
Tuesday 22nd Upchurch V Sherwood CC XI 2pm 40 over BBQ/ Quiz night
Wednesday 23rd Upchurch V TKW XI 2pm 40 over BBQ/Karaoke
Thursday 24th Upchurch V Meopham CC XI 2pm 40 over BBQ
Friday 25th LMS cricket tournament 4 teams 10am -7pm Hog roast/Live band

We end the week by having a cricket franchise called Last man standing down to run the day, its 8 a side 20/20 cricket with a couple of twists we are putting the 4 teams together comprising of an Upchurch seniors, a colts team, parents & coaches team & the football team will be entering a squad, it will hopefully be a fun day to end the week with the finale in the evening an all ticket affair at £5 each for the hog roast, live band, raffle and auction.
We will be staging all this outside with an outside bar and marques up with hopefully various activities going on all day for entertainment. We have been very fortunate with some great prizes for the evening ranging from Lords tickets including the tour for 4 along with donations from Canterbury & the Oval, Leeds castle and many more.

This stage is where we need all your help as obviously all this will not come together without the support of players and volunteers from the club, there will be many jobs to be helped out with as well as players to fulfil fixtures, and if you are unable to manage an afternoon off for a game or two then please come down and support the week after work. We are aiming to sell 200 tickets for the Friday evening so please let us know how many you would like for yourself and your families and let’s try and make it a successful week, please if you could fill in the attached form on the back and hand it in or let myself or Dave know of your availability by next weekend 12th /13th we’d be very grateful.

Kind Regards, Lee & Dave PTO

As a club, Upchurch has progressed from the Kent Regional Cricket League 1A East Division in 2003, to winning promotion into the Kent Cricket League Division 1 in 2013. This is a total of 8 tiers on the ladder of amateur cricket in Kent. The KCL Division 1 is one division away from the top division of cricket in Kent, which is the Premier League in Kent cricket. For us at Upchurch Cricket Club, this is a proud achievement that all members of the club have work towards on the field.

Off the field we have had the delight of being able to open our new pavilion, which was built by the members of the Upchurch Cricket Club. Upchurch Cricket Club invested a large amount of time and effort to make this project happen. Not only was the time and effort put in on the actual build but members got businesses to discount or donate materials.
Below you can see before and after pictures of the Upchurch Cricket Club.
